Swelling and tenderness in the hyoid area

Introduction

Introduction During the physical examination, the hyoid bone area is swollen and tender, and sometimes it can touch the broken bone friction sound, which is a common symptom of hyoid bone fracture. The hyoid bone is hoof-shaped and consists of the lingual body, the big horn (2) and the small horn (2). It is the main supporter of the tongue. Immediately below the thyroid cartilage, the large horn of the hyoid bone has a ligament of the stem and tongue connected to the styloid process of the tibia. Most of the hyoid bone is located under the skin. The hyoid bone may be congenital malformation, and the ligament of the stem and tongue may be calcified or ossified to be connected with the hyoid bone. Normal people before the age of 20 to 30 years, the tongue and body of the hyoid bone without bone joints accounted for more than 50%. The lingual body and the small corner of the hyoid bone are also separated by cartilage. Calcification of the ligament of the stem and ligament or fusion with the lingual bone, or premature osseous connection are the cause of the fracture.

Cause

Cause

More common in the front of the neck, various blunt force contusions, such as boxing injuries, injuries, car accidents. It can also be pulled by violent muscles. According to the literature, strong swallowing movements and sudden neck overstretching and torsion can cause fracture of hyoid bohe.

Deformation of the hyoid bone, the swelling of the hyoid bone area, tenderness can be seen during the physical examination, and sometimes the rubbing sound of the broken bone can be touched.

X-ray cervical lateral radiograph: showing the shadow of the fracture line with light transmission, the continuity of the hyoid bone and the dislocation of the fracture piece. It has been reported that 1/2 of the fractures of the hyoid bone are located at the junction of the large angle of the hyoid bone and the hyoid bone; another 1/2 of the fracture line is located at the large angle of the hyoid bone. A fracture caused by a fierce contraction of the muscle is a large-horn fracture of the hyoid bone.

Note: Before the age of 45, the large angle of the hyoid bone is separated from the hyoid bone, and the fracture line should not be mistaken. Young people with small horns of unfolded shadows and calcification or ossification of the lingual ligament or thyroid ligament of the proximal lingual bone, like fracture fragments, should be noted.

Diagnosis

Differential diagnosis

The diagnosis should be differentiated from the following symptoms:

Tongue pain

Tongue pain refers to a syndrome of burning, burning pain, numbness, and pain in different parts of the tongue, tongue, tongue, tongue or whole tongue.

2. Tongue abscess

In patients with acute tongue tonsillitis, the lymphoid tissue at the base of the tongue is granulated, hyperemia, swelling, and connected to the lower end of the tonsil. In severe cases, ulcers and purulent secretions may be localized, and the abscess of the tongue may occur.

3. Tongue fracture

Tongue type fracture of calcaneus fracture: caused by multiple vertical violence.
