skin mucin deposition

Introduction

Introduction Skin mucinosis is a group of diseases characterized by diffuse or localized deposition of mucin in the skin. The mucin of the dermis is present in the matrix between the collagens, mainly hyaluronic acid, acid mucopolysaccharide, and when the mucin is significantly increased, it is a mildly basophilic, granular or fibrous substance under HE staining.

Cause

Cause

Hyaluronic acid, acid mucopolysaccharide, mucin increased significantly, diffuse or localized deposition in the skin.

General pathological changes:

1. The epidermis is generally normal or atrophied and flattened.

2. A large amount of mucin is deposited in the reticular layer of the dermis, collagen fibers are separated, and replaced by mucin, which becomes a small cyst.

3. More mucinous cell proliferation can be seen at the mucin deposit.

4, no collagen increased, no inflammatory cell infiltration.

Clinical features:

1. Middle-aged people are rare.

2, due to the limited proliferation of fibroblasts, the production of excessive mucin, deposited in local tissues, can be seen in multiple melanosis syndrome.

3, the skin lesions are light red single or multiple papules or nodules, about 2cm in diameter, smooth skin, visible in any part of the body surface.

4, without any symptoms, can be self-healing.

Diagnosis

Differential diagnosis

Pathological differential diagnosis:

Skin mucoid cyst: a single, non-encapsulated mucin-limited deposition, usually located just below the epidermis.

Adult scleredema mainly: hyaluronic acid, ashen blue and gel-like iron staining can be clearly shown.

Mucinous edematous moss: more fibroblasts in the upper part of the dermis, increased collagen. There is no crack-like cavity.
