The invasiveness of E. histolytica to the host is through a contact (contact killing) mechanism, which includes continuous processes such as adhesion, enzymatic lysis, cytotoxicity, and phagocytosis. Adhesion refers to galactose-specific adhesin, which has ligand-receptor binding to acetylglucosamine and acetylgalactosamine on the target cell membrane, and trophoblast target cells are made within a few seconds after adhesion.
