Cryptococcosis latex agglutination test

Latex agglutination test for detection of Cryptococcus neoformans capsular polysaccharide antigen is a simple, rapid and effective laboratory method for the diagnosis of cryptococcal infection. It uses latex particles as a carrier and is attached with anti-Cryptococcus neoformans antibodies to form a sensitizing latex suspension. For example, specimens (serum, pleural effusion, bronchoalveolar lavage or cerebrospinal fluid) contain a certain amount of cryptococcal capsular polysaccharide. The antigen produces macroscopic agglutination particles. There is no definite diagnostic threshold for this test, and its sensitivity and specificity remain to be verified, but it provides useful clues for early diagnosis of pulmonary cryptococcosis.
